CBD oil dosage

There are various forms in which you can get the beneficial effects of cannabinoids into your body. Whether you reach for CBD oils, prefer tablets or even vape pens, the most important thing will always be that you apply them in the right amount that will benefit your health . Experts agree that it is not possible to establish a universal dosage formula for CBD. Why? You will find out in the following lines.

Endocannabinoids and their influence on homeostasis

The functioning of the human body is ensured by several systems. One, which we were not taught about in school, has a significant role in regulating the balance of several physiological processes. This is the endocannabinoid system , which the world got to know better thanks to the discovery of two scientists - the Czech chemist Lumír Hanuš and the American pharmacologist William Devane. They discovered that the human brain can produce endocannabinoids on its own, regardless of whether you consume cannabis products or not.

The endocannabinoid system is the subject of great interest in scientific circles today. Although it is not yet fully explored, scientists associate this system with many processes ensuring homeostasis. These include, for example , digestion, metabolism, learning and memory, immune response, sleep and stress . Today, many experts are even convinced that maintaining the balance of the body is the main task of the endocannabinoid system. Although scientists have yet to agree on exactly how this system interacts with CBD, it appears that cannabinoids do indeed help manage pain and nausea caused by various health complications and diseases.

Factors that affect CBD dosage

CBD drops and vaporizer pens are considered the most effective form of cannabinoid use. Although some manufacturers list recommended daily doses, the truth is that it is not possible to define a universal dose for everyone. At the same time, the ideal dosage of CBD will probably change throughout your life . The amount of the recommended dose depends on the health problem for which you use CBD, but also on several individual factors :

  • The ratio of the active substance (CBD) of a specific product
  • Bioavailability according to the form of the CBD product
  • Metabolism
  • Individual biochemistry of the body
  • Previous experience with CBD products
  • Body weight
  • Severity of medical complications
  • Other treatment you are taking

CBD oil, capsules, vaporizer or cream? Comparison of bioavailability

There are countless CBD products on the market. You can choose them based on personal preference. For example, someone may prefer CBD capsules to CBD oil for a simple reason – they may not like the taste of CBD oil. On the other hand, it is also worth considering the so-called bioavailability of individual forms of CBD. Bioavailability is a pharmacological term that indicates the proportion of a dose of an unchanged substance that enters the bloodstream . Simply put - if a substance is administered directly into a vein, its bioavailability will be 100%.

According to a 2009 study , CBD vaporizers have the highest bioavailability, up to around 56%. The most popular CBD drops range from 20 to 30 percent and capsules between 5 and 15 percent. CBD creams or gels that are applied to the skin have zero bioavailability because they cannot be absorbed into the bloodstream through the skin. However, this is not even their task, since CBD creams enter the receptors of the skin and muscles, where they perform their tasks against inflammation or muscle spasms.

Before you start taking any CBD product, we recommend that you consult your doctor about the dosage. This is especially important if you are also taking other medication. In this way, you will prevent possible unwanted difficulties in connection with the interference of individual substances.

How to calculate the right dose for yourself?

Considering the mentioned factors that affect the dosage of CBD preparations, we recommend a gradual start-up. This means starting with a lower dose - 5 mg two to three times a day - and gradually increasing it to find the ideal balance. The reason is simple - you avoid unwanted side effects , which include drowsiness, low blood pressure or diarrhea.

CBD oils are also sold with a pipette, so you can easily calculate how many drops correspond to your dose. One drop from a pipette is usually 0.04 milliliters , so you use simple math to calculate the CBD content of a drop:

CBD content in the bottle (in mg) ÷ Total volume of the bottle (in ml) = CBD content in one drop (in mg)

For example, if a bottle with a volume of 10 ml contains 1000 mg of CBD (concentration 10%), then:
1,000 ÷ 250 = 4 mg of CBD per 1 ml of oil

What doses of CBD oil to take?

Below we present the reference doses of CBD for a person with a body weight of 80 kilograms and a moderate severity of the mentioned disease. We recommend dividing the indicated daily doses in mg into several and taking them with food:

In any case , we recommend that you consult the use and dosage of CBD with your attending physician. Especially if you are taking other medical treatment, this way you will avoid possible inconveniences with the cross action of individual substances.

How to use CBD oil and CBD capsules correctly?

Before use, shake the bottle vigorously and take the oil into a pipette. Apply the drops in front of a mirror so that you can see them well and be able to count them. Then wait a minute or two for the active substance to be absorbed. From there it travels into the bloodstream.

Overdose or addiction? You don't have to worry about CBD

Are you worried that you might overdose or develop an addiction? Cannabinoids are considered safe for human use without any signs of toxicity, up to 1,500 mg per day, and although they come from hemp, they do not have a psychoactive effect. Even the World Health Organization (WHO) has confirmed that CBD does not cause addiction and overall there is no evidence of a negative impact on public health.
